The display part is open to give a high level of visibility and doesn't interfere speakers or sensor. The display protector film included protects the display from scratches without affecting the touch screen operation.
For the volume control on the side, button shaped silicone with a small projection allows you to control iPhone 3G volume switch in your pocket.
you can still control volume with your iPhone in your pocket. Lanyard holes on the back allows you to use your choice of lanyard.
